#knitsonikmittsalong PDF pattern and moodboard (Silchester wall)
This pattern + moodboard were designed to aid participation in the KNITSONIK autumn 2015 #knitsonikmitsalong and are offered here in case you want to have a go in your own time. The pattern and photos offer a jumping off point for experimenting with designing your own stranded colourwork and suggested yarn shades for the project are offered below.
The pattern features the same written instructions as the Fingerless Mitts pattern in the KNITSONIK Stranded Colourwork Sourcebook plus blank charts and a moodboard to aid your DIY designs. These items have been re-styled to the Silchester wall theme of the KNITSONIK autumn 2015 #knitsonikmittsalong. Please note, only some of the pages are shown here in the photos. The pattern includes written directions and blank charts for you to fill with your own designs as you mittsonik!
The idea is to knit a pair of fingerless mitts as a swatch, creating and designing your own charts as you go. The inspiration source is a beautiful old Roman wall at Silchester, photos of which are included in this PDF pattern and moodboard. By knitting together and experimenting with a similar palette, we can collectively explore the interactions and possibilities of the same limited palette. The first #knitsonikmittsalong ran from 1st Oct 2015 - 31st Jan 2016, but there is no time limit if you want to make your own mitts exploring greys and greens now and you can see some of the lovely things that people knitted using this pattern and inspiration source here.
This PDF is designed to be used in conjunction with 8 shades of Jamieson & Smith Shetland 2-ply Jumper Weight Yarn that can be purchased here from my friends at Jamieson & Smith or here from my friends at Purlescence.
The suggested shades of Jamieson & Smith 2-ply Jumper Weight yarn for the Silchester wall #knitsonikmittsalong are FC12, FC11, 121, 202, 81, 54, 27 and 203 but of course feel free to choose your own shades :)
